Meet Guangzhao Mao, Ph.D.

Dr. Guangzhao Mao is chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University. She is an expert in nanoengineering and has established a certificate program for students at the university.

Hometown: Nanjing, China

When did you know you wanted to become a chemical engineer?
I had a B.S. degree in chemistry in China, but I applied and was admitted to the top chemical engineering graduate program in the United States. 

What's your favorite thing about the field?
Chemical engineering graduates are hired by a wide range of industries; it's not just limited to chemical companies.

What are some exciting areas of study/research in your field?
My own research in nanotechnology with impacts on the future of medicine.

Any tips for success?
Keep an open mind when it comes to career choices.

What do you like to do when you're not teaching or researching?
I like to read and cook!
