Meet Leslie Monplaisir, Ph.D.

Dr. Leslie Monplaisir is chair of the Wayne State University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. He is lead researcher and director of the Product Development and Systems Engineering Consortium (PDSEC). 

Hometown: Georgetown, Trinidad & Tobago

When did you know you wanted to become an industrial engineer?
In 11th grade I went on a summer tour of a bauxite processing plant. That's when I knew I wanted to be an industrial engineer.

What’s your favorite thing about the field?
Using data to analyze the performance of a system, then redesigning or engineering a completely new process.

What are some exciting areas of study/research in your field?​
Data analytics, systems redesign, new product development, and computer simulation and modeling.

Any tips for success?
Be creative and innovative, observe and analyze systems, and learn to work in teams.

What do you like to do when you're not teaching or researching?
I like playing tennis and traveling to new places.
