About the department

Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department at Wayne State University (WSU). Located in the automotive capital of the world, the area has an intellectual culture that is a magnet for world-class mechanical engineering talents.

The ME Department aims at providing students with experiential learning opportunities through their engagement in research projects during the early years of their education under the tutelage of our outstanding faculty. Our hands-on educational program enables students to connect theories with real-world engineering problems and provides them with a cutting edge technological insight necessaryto produce well-balanced and highly sought after engineering graduates.

The opportunities and challenges in the field of mechanical engineering are many and diverse. A mechanical engineering degree from WSU provides a solid technical foundation that prepares our graduates for career opportunities in research and development, design analysis, materials synthesis, manufacturing and production engineering, testing, structural analysis, automatic controls, sales engineering, maintenance, and administration.

The ME Department is firmly committed to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that values diverse backgrounds, respects different perspectives, and strives to provide students with an enjoyable and worthwhile experience as they go through our program. We are keen on promoting diversity and equity for the establishment of a strong learning community.
