Research and faculty

Led by nationally renowned faculty, teams of undergraduate and graduate students work side by side, conducting ground breaking research in emerging technologies such as:

  • Advanced materials and manufacturing
  • Advanced propulsion and energy systems
  • Dynamics, acoustics and controls

Students can either select courses that involve research projects or become student research assistants supported by individual faculty grants. Such participation is not only fun and rewarding, but also beneficial in pursuit of employment or graduate study. In addition to the teaching laboratories, the department has numerous research labs dedicated to conduct research in manufacturing, composite materials, metamaterials, batteries and fuel cells, soft robotics, autonomous systems, acoustics and combustion.
