Chair of biomedical engineering selected to serve as member of NIH Medical Imaging Study Section at the Center for Scientific Review

DETROIT (July 1, 2014) - Juri Gelovani, professor and chair of biomedical engineering in Wayne State University's College of Engineering, has been selected to serve as a member of the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) Medical Imaging Study Section at the Center for Scientific Review. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments; publications in scientific journals; and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors. As a member of the Medical Imaging Study Section, Gelovani will help assure the quality of the NIH peer review process and contribute to the national biomedical research effort.

"This appointment is an indication of the quality of medical imaging faculty expertise that we have in the college."

Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science. Gelovani's term will begin July 10, 2014, and end June 30, 2018.
