Winter career fair brings over 30 employers to 800 students

The College of Engineering's Winter Career Fair brought nearly 800 students, alumni and community members to the Wayne State campus to meet with future employers.

The career fair featured 32 employers from different engineering disciplines. "It wasn't just the big contenders like GM or DTE," according to one student who was surveyed following the event. "It made it so that even us juniors had a solid chance at a summer internship."

This is the second year that the College of Engineering has held a Winter Career Fair to connect students and employers in response to the popularity of the Fall Career Fair.

Many students were able to make connections with recruiters before the event and meet with them during the career fair. "The whole event was positive. I was able to meet with very relevant representatives from Little Caesars," another student wrote. "I had just applied to them a few days before, and I got to meet the woman who was head of hiring for the position group I applied for. I had a great conversation with her and got her business card."

Employers were equally impressed with the high turnout, with some tables having lines of students waiting to meet with company representatives.

"An education at Wayne State really just gave me an introduction to the professional world," said alumnus Michael Oben, an IT recruiter for Quicken Loans who has been with the company for two-and-a-half years. "Wayne State really gave me the tools to take my career to the next level."

The College of Engineering had a post-graduation employment rate of 93 percent in the 2015-16 academic year.
