Hands-on experience

Our students apply lessons learned in the classroom to team-based simulations. They research, incorporate design fundamentals and procedures, test and retest solutions, and learn how to succeed and sometimes fail in a safe, productive learning environment.

Through our hands-on learning experiences, we prepare our students for the real world. Our Warrior Racing team gives mechanical engineering students the chance to develop and race a Formula SAE car at national competitions. Civil and environmental engineering students collaborate in concrete canoe and bridge building competitions. Each year the Anderson Engineering Ventures Institute's Student Innovation and Design Day showcases more than 100 senior capstone and research projects, many of which show potential for commercialization. The College of Engineering hosts an annual 24-hour hackathon, giving students a chance to create innovative apps and software that can be used in the real world.
