Interested in starting your own company but need a little more inspiration? Some of our most successful alumni founded companies thanks to their inventions and/or Wayne State education.

  • Yousif Ghafari (Chemical Engineering) is president of Ghafari Associates Inc., a multidisciplined architectural, engineering, computer applications and CADD service firm he founded in 1982.
  • James A. Anderson (Civil Engineering) is president of Urban Science Applications, Inc., a successful company that he established in 1977.
  • Rob A. Rutenbar (Electrical and Computer Engineering) co-founded Neolinear Inc. to commercialize the first practical synthesis tools for analog designs and was its chief scientist until its acquisition by Cadence Design Systems. He is the founding director of the U.S. National Focus Research Center for Circuits and System Solutions, a consortium of 19 U.S. universities and more than 50 faculty that addresses future circuit challenges.
  • Avinash Rachmale (Civil Engineering) founded Lakeshore Engineering Services, Inc., one of the country’s most successful and fastest-growing minority-owned companies.
