Two members of the Wayne State University women's swimming team received Academic All-America recognition from CoSIDA as announced by the organization earlier today. Senior
Elly Maleski (Cedar, Mich. / Traverse City West) became the first WSU student-athlete to be a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American after earning Second Team accolades for the third straight year. Meanwhile, senior
Hannah Loesch (Pensacola, Fla.), who was a Third Team honoree a year ago, was a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection for 2016.
Maleski was a three-time All-American (two First team and one Honorable Mention) at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships. She won GLIAC titles in both the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay this past February. Maleski finished in the top seven in six events at the GLIAC Championships. In her collegiate career, she earned 16 All-American honors (13 First Team, three Honorable mention) and received the 2016 Deans' Award from the College of Engineering. Maleski was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Second Team in 2015 and won a national title in the 200 free relay that broke a Division II record in 2014. She was selected to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for three straight years and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) for seven semesters, including two 4.00 terms. A biomedical engineering major, Maleski graduated last month with a 3.644 cumulative GPA.
Loesch was four-time All-American (two First Team and two Honorable Mention) at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships. She won four GLIAC titles in February at the conference championship and was selected as a recipient of the 2016 GLIAC Commissioner's Award. In her collegiate career, she earned nine All-American accolades (five First Team, four Honorable Mention) and was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Third Team in 2015. The 2016 Deans' Award winner from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Loesch was selected to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for three straight seasons and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) for seven semesters, including five 4.00 terms and the Coach's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.0-3.49) the other term. An English Honors major, Loesch graduated last month with a 3.889 cumulative GPA.
Their selections give the WSU men's and women's swimming and diving programs 20 CoSIDA Academic All-American selections in school history, and all in the last 12 years. Loesch and Maleski join Erika Barczak (2008-1st Team),

Swimming does not have its own CoSIDA Academic All-American teams, instead swimming is included in the At-Large category joining with other Olympic sports such as Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Bowling, Women's Crew/Rowing, Men's and Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Rifle, Men's and Women's Skiing, Men's and Women's Swimming, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Water Polo and Men's Wrestling.
