Computer Science kicks off 2012-13 Distinguished Lecture Series

DETROIT (Sept. 13, 2012) - Wayne State University's Department of Computer Science hosted a lecture Tuesday, "Building Resiliency into the Smarter Electric Grid," to kick off its annual Distinguished Lecture Series. William Sanders, professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, addressed more than 60 attendees in Wayne State's Bernath Auditorium.

Specifically, Sanders addressed the issue of building trustworthy cyber infrastructures for the smart electric grid. He discussed the broad context of smart grid as well as the specific challenges and candidate solution approaches of trustworthy cyber infrastructures for the electric grid. He also touched upon the importance of academia-industry collaborations in solving the challenging problems posed by the next-generation electric grid.

"Our Distinguished Lecture Series provides our students, our faculty and staff members, our alumni and our greater community with a forum to learn about new technologies and trends in our field from the nation's leading experts," said Xuewen Chen, chair of the Wayne State Department of Computer Science. "We were thrilled to welcome Dr. Sanders to campus for this exciting lecture and look forward to the remaining three lectures in our annual series."

During his visit, Sanders visited the college's cutting-edge research and education facilities for wireless sensing and control networks as well as alternative energy systems.

The 2012-13 Distinguished Lecture Series also will feature the below lectures.
