Chemical engineers apply knowledge in mathematics and science to chemical process design and optimization, solving technical problems safely and economically for a wide range of industries. Materials science focuses on the relationships among properties, functions and structural elements of traditional metal, ceramic and polymeric materials, as well as advanced materials.
Students in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science are positioned to provide leadership in battery technology; biomaterials and tissue engineering; catalysis; computational thermodynamics; drug and gene delivery; polymer and colloidal engineering; and sustainable systems engineering.
