Meet Nabil Chalhoub, Ph.D.

Dr. Nabil Chalhoub is chair of the Wayne State University Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Tau Beta Pi. His research interests include robotics and internal combustion engines.

When did you know you wanted to become a mechanical engineer?
I knew I wanted to be a mechanical engineer in middle school because I was fascinated by large machines.

What's your favorite thing about the field?
Mechanical engineering is a very broad and diverse field of study. It has a wide range of applications in automotive, aerospace, marine vessels, powerplants, renewable energy, robotics and autonomous vehicles, just to name a few. And it provides numerous options for its graduates.

What are some exciting areas of study/research in your field?​
Active control of structures, autonomous vehicles and marine surface vessels.

Any tips for success?
Believe in yourself, work hard and persevere!

What do you like to do when not teaching or researching?
I like to travel and play volleyball with my kids.
