Dr. Ericson is an Assistant Professor of Information, School of Information and Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering at the University of Michigan.  She worked for many years as a software engineer at General Motors Research Labs, Bell Communications Research, and the Institute of Paper Science and Technology. She currently studies how to improve the teaching, learning, and diversity of computing.  She has authored several free and interactive ebooks for introductory programming on the open-source Runestone platform.  Over 50,000 students are currently registered for CSAwesome, a college board endorsed curriculum and free ebook for Advanced Placement Computer Science A. She and her husband, Dr. Mark Guzdial (also an alumni of Wayne State University) were the 2010 Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Computing Educator Award for their work on media computation: a way to teach computing by having students write programs to manipulate pictures, sounds, movies, and text.  She was also the winner of the 2012 A. Richard Newton Educator Award for her efforts to attract more females to computing.
