IMPACT Spring 2025 newsletter: Greetings from the dean

Dean Ali AbolmaaliThis spring marks a defining moment in the history of our college — and of Wayne State University — as we proudly announce the transformative $50 million gift from James and Patricia Anderson, and the renaming of the College of Engineering in their honor.

The Andersons’ visionary support will accelerate our mission in profound ways. It underscores the value of what we do every day: advancing research, expanding opportunities for our students and strengthening the industries that drive Michigan’s economy. Just as importantly, it reflects a deep confidence in our students, our faculty, our city and our shared future.

We already see that future taking shape across the college. In this issue of Impact, you'll read about our continued national leadership in sustainable manufacturing and injury biomechanics, faculty and students making headlines in cybersecurity and clean energy research, and alumni who are building safer workplaces and stronger communities.

This is a college on the move. Our experience-driven curriculum, strong industry partnerships and deep connection to Detroit position us uniquely to prepare the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. Thanks to the support of people like Jim and Patti — and to the passion and commitment of our entire community — we are rising to meet the moment, and the future is bright.

Thank you for being part of this exciting journey.

With all my best,

Ali Abolmaali, Ph.D., P.E.
