Industrial and systems engineering professor to serve on editorial board of major healthcare systems journal

Industrial and systems engineering professor and chair of research Kai Yang was invited to join the editorial board of flagship journal IIE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering. Yang will serve as the healthcare informatics department editor, deciding which papers will be published in his section of the journal.

"This department editor position will help me to assume academic leadership in the area of research in the field of healthcare systems engineering nationally and internationally," said Yang. "This will put Wayne State University and the College of Engineering in the spotlight in the area of healthcare systems engineering for years to come. It will greatly enhance our industrial and systems engineering department's visibility and reputation."

According to its publishers, IIE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering, an official journal of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, encourages research motivated by the challenging problems related to healthcare systems. It publishes original high-quality papers on healthcare related topics of interest to researchers who want to remain current with cutting edge approaches to healthcare issues.

Yang's goals for his new role are to speed up the review process, recruit high quality associate editors, help to establish a special editorial board of healthcare professionals to promote healthcare systems engineering to the broader healthcare community, and increase the journal's impact.
