Luke Popiel

electrical and computer engineering student, was a judge in a Future City competition, sponsored by the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD). At the event, teams from middle schools around Michigan use software to design a city more than 150 years in the future. The cities have futuristic methods of providing clean water, food, shelter, energy, transportation, fulfilling work and recreation to their residents. Popiel, who is founder and president of the first student chapter of ESD at Wayne State, partnered with DTE Energy Foundation to judge the teams for Best Use of Energy.
