Matthew Hughes

a civil engineering senior, presented a unique demonstration tool to the City Manager and City Council of the City of Troy Michigan on May 19. Matthew is currently a summer intern in the Streets Division at the Department of Public Works. The diorama was made to show all the important underground utilities and other aspects of infrastructure we rely on every day. The model includes aspects of pavement design, underground utilities, and geological layers. The model will ultimately be used as a tool in an attempt to keep funding infrastructure projects and maintenance in the city. The model features real materials (earth, clay, and cement) for realistic effects. The model currently can be seen at City Hall.
