Student wins Best Poster Award at IEEE Southeastern Michigan Conference

PHOTO RELEASE (April 16, 2012) - Mohammad Obeidat, a Wayne State University College of Engineering student pursuing a doctoral degree in electrical engineering, won the Best Poster Award during the 2012 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Southeastern Michigan Section Spring Conference. Obeidat's poster was titled "Speed Identification of PMDC Motors Using Binary Sensors."

Obeidat's research interests are in the areas of system identification, control, power and mechatronics. He is currently working on modelling, control and system identification for electric machines under the supervision of Wayne State Professor Le Yi Wang.

His winning poster highlights algorithms that can perform model estimation under binary valued speed measurements. According to Obeidat, he updated it to be used under quantized output observations at a more cost effective rate.

Obeidat is a member of IEEE, the Tau Beta PI Honor Society, the Golden Key Honor Society, and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).
