Students from Shanghai University visit College of Engineering

PHOTO RELEASE (August 17, 2012) - A group of 20 undergraduate and graduate engineering students from Shanghai University in Shanghai, China recently visited the Wayne State University College of Engineering. It was one of several international visits that took place this summer as part of Dean Farshad Fotouhi's initiative to increase the college's reach in the global community.

The group was welcomed by Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Services Darin Ellis, who noted the College of Engineering's emphasis on international relations. Associate Professor Jerry Ku presented on the Electric-drive Vehicle Engineering program, as well as the Wayne State EcoCAR 2 team. The students then toured the Alternative Energy Technology Lab, Nanotechnology Lab, and Transparent Engine and Laser Diagnostics Lab.

The Macomb Cultural and Economic Partnership (MCEP), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering relationships between Macomb County and the international community, coordinated the visit. MCEP worked with Rebecca Journigan, project coordinator of Wayne State Educational Outreach and International Programs, to arrange the visit.

"Connecting Wayne State with international universities offers our students a different perspective and better prepares them to be members of the global society," said Journigan.

The students spent two weeks in the Metro Detroit area, living with host families and visiting companies, such as General Motors and Ford Motor Company, and other Michigan universities.
