Wayne State's College of Engineering celebrates National Engineers Week

DETROIT (Feb. 15, 2013) - The Wayne State University College of Engineering will celebrate National Engineers Week Feb. 17-23 with a number of events and activities.

"Engineers Week is a nationally celebrated week recognizing engineers," said Jessica Young, a member of the college's Engineering Student Faculty Board and co-chair of Engineers Week at Wayne State. "We are thrilled to have so many activities planned, and we encourage all students, faculty, alumni and friends to join us."

National Engineers Week calls attention to the contributions engineers make to society. It also highlights the importance of promoting STEM disciplines among future generations of students.

The College of Engineering will be celebrating with activities planned throughout the week.

Monday, Feb. 18The Wayne State Insiders kick off Engineers Week at the College of Engineering
Noon-1:30 p.m., Marvin I. Danto Engineering Development Center
This event includes a series of presentations and a panel featuring WSU College of Engineering faculty, students and alumni. They'll provide an overview of the college's exciting history, success stories and ongoing projects, and answer questions about Wayne State's engineering and computer science programs.

Tuesday, Feb. 19
NSBE and ASME Networking Social
7 p.m., Ford Student Activity Center
This networking event provides students the opportunity to network with local professionals as well as other students.

Wednesday, Feb. 20
Tau Beta Pi Meet the College Luncheon
Noon, Ford Student Activity Center
This event is designed to help the many members of the College of Engineering community meet one another.

EcoCAR 2 Presentation/Garage Tour
3-5 p.m., Marvin I. Danto Engineering Development Center, Room 2507
This event features a short introduction to the EcoCAR 2 project, an engineering presentation and a garage tour.

Thursday, Feb. 21
IEEE Battle of the Engineers
8 p.m., Marvin I. Danto Engineering Development Center Auditorium
This student event features a trivia game composed of math and science questions from engineering prerequisite courses. It divides students into teams based on majors. The winning major will be recognized with a plaque in the Engineering Development Center.

Friday, Feb. 22
IIE Hosts Chandler Park High School
9 a.m.-2 p.m., Manufacturing Building
Chandler Park High School students will visit the College of Engineering.

AIChE Brewery Tour
1:45 p.m., Meet at the Engineering Building, Room 1212
The group will take a tour of brewing and cheese making processes at Detroit's famous Traffic Jam and Snug on West Canfield Street.
Saturday, Feb. 23
FutureSWE!
8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Marvin I. Danto Engineering Development Center Lobby
This event is aimed at educating high school students about the various engineering fields.
