Winter engineering career fair attracts more than 850 students, 33 employers

The College of Engineering's first winter career fair was a resounding success. More than 850 students and 33 employers filled the WSU Student Center Ballroom on January 28 to share employment opportunities and résumés.

"We tested the waters this year with our first-ever winter engineering career fair and it wildly exceeded our expectations," said Erin Rook, program coordinator for the Engineering Career Resource Center. "Initially, we were hoping for 10 to 15 employers to attend the event, but we ended up having to cut off our employer registration after 33 registered for the event."

Among the employers were big names such as Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, LG, Brightwing and more. Students also were able to have Wayne State alumni critique their résumés before meeting with potential employers. Global Detroit also attended the event to provide information to employers and international students.

Following the success of this event, the College of Engineering will continue to host both a fall and winter career fair annually in an effort to better serve students and local industry. "Helping students gain access to co-ops and internships is one of the College of Engineering's high-impact practices and priorities," said Dean Farshad Fotouhi. "Employers know that top engineering and computer science talent can be found in Midtown Detroit, and our career fair numbers show that."
