Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Engineers build the foundations for every type of infrastructure that supports our society. Our College is dedicated to academic excellence that supports improving the quality of life through education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Our community of people have different races and ethnicities, genders and gender identities, sexual orientations, socio-economic status, languages, cultures, national origins, religious commitments, ages, (dis)abilities, life experiences, and political perspectives. These differences are what make us strong. This diversity broadens our understanding of the world around us and equips us to solve engineering challenges more equitably and inclusively.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee in the College of Engineering is a dynamic group of people consisting of engineering students, staff, faculty, and alumni from different backgrounds and departments. We commit to finding approaches that ensure every member in College of Engineering not only has equal access to opportunities but also has the resources and tools needed to take advantage of these opportunities. We commit to taking actions that ensure our College is a place where differences are celebrated, perspectives are respectfully heard, and where every individual feels they belong and have purpose.

The DEI Committee aims to be an empowering resource committed to education and to creating and promoting policies, programs, and opportunities that establish our College as a leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion at Wayne State University. We actively embrace the College's vision through personal, professional, and academic exploration that embraces insightful, diverse perspectives and creates learning and workplace environments that are representative of our city, nation, and global society.
