College of Engineering hosts 55th annual Honors Convocation
Wayne State University's College of Engineering held its 55th annual Honors Convocation at the Michigan Science Center on Apr. 24. The convocation offers awards and other recognitions of distinction to individuals who have shown both excellent academic achievement and exemplary leadership in student activities and community service. "The College is proud to acknowledge the high academic standards that our students meet in pursuing and completing their degree programs. In addition, this convocation allows us to honor the dedication of our professors and academic staff in engineering education," says Wayne State College of Engineering Dean Farshad Fotouhi.
Students and their families filled the Science Center to celebrate the accomplishments of each other over the past year. Alumnus Luke Popiel BSECE '13 gave the keynote speech, offering congratulations and advice for the future engineers in attendance. Popiel is currently an operations support engineer at General Motors and is continuing his involvement with Wayne State University as a recruiter for General Motors Information Technology.
"This great event acknowledges the achievements of our hardworking students, staff and faculty. It gives us an opportunity to thank them for their determination and commitment to the College," says Maheen Asghar, undergraduate student in computer science and president of the Engineering Student Faculty Board.
