Sports Science, featuring WSU's Cynthia Bir, nominated for two awards at 33rd annual Sports Emmys

DETROIT (April 23, 2012) - ESPN Sport Science, the popular Emmy-winning television series featuring Wayne State University Professor of Biomedical Engineering Cynthia Bir, has been nominated for two Sports Emmy Awards this year. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will announce the winners at the 33rd annual Sports Emmys on April 30, 2012, at the Lincoln Center located in the Time Warner Center on April 30th, 2012 in New York City.

The Sport Science team is nominated for Outstanding Graphic Design and Outstanding New Approaches.

The series uncovers sports' biggest myths and mysteries by using cutting-edge technology to measure momentum, forces and acceleration of top athletes. Bir, who is the show's lead scientist, helps viewers understand the internal and external forces sustained and generated by the body during high-level athletic activities.

"We've had a wonderful time filming this show and are thrilled it is still being recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences," Bir said. "The show entertains and educates a global audience in a unique and positive way. I'm glad that Wayne State has continued to play a role."
