Research and faculty
Computer science faculty including five NSF CAREER and five NSF CRII awardees and students at Wayne State are positioned to provide leadership in emerging growth areas that will shape the future, including:
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Big data and business analytics
- Cloud and edge computing
- Computer game design
- Cybersecurity
- Mobility and autonomous driving
- Networking
- Software engineering
The department runs seven teaching labs and a dozen research labs, including spaces dedicated to graphics and imaging, networking and real-time systems, and autonomous vehicles. The department conducts broad interdisciplinary research with other academic areas, including business, medicine, engineering and science.
Highlights
Many students and outsiders may not be aware of the extent to which engineering students can engage in cross-disciplinary projects and research. This unique feature allows engineering students to work closely with peers from other fields, such as healthcare, business, or the arts, to tackle complex real-world challenges.
