James A. Anderson - Hall of Fame 1995

Civil and Environmental Engineering

James A. Anderson is president of Urban Science Applications, Inc., a successful company which he established in 1977. Before that he was a member of the College of Engineering faculty. James earned a bachelor's degree from Wayne State in civil engineering in 1966, and a master's degree in 1970 with a minor in operations research.

Urban Science specializes in applying scientific problem solving methods to marketing problems such as retail store site location analysis and network planning. Urban Science's major clients include the automobile manufacturers in the United States, financial institutions and information technology companies.

James is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Marketing Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, Association for Computing Machinery, Engineering Society of Detroit, Sigma Xi National Research Society, and the Institute of Management Science and Operations Research Society of America.
